Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but I think we can all agree that our next Customer Spotlight: LoreIllustration creates beautiful things. Prickly green cactus and gracefully swimming whales are just a couple of her specialties, but the list doesn’t end there. Lore has taken her love for illustrating and turned it into a budding business which includes, original art, prints, cards and hand stamped zipper pouches and tote bags. One thing is for sure, there is something special about Lore’s work that speaks to us. Her drawings seem to come alive!
We proudly supply LoreIllustration the iron-on woven labels for her handmade items and we couldn’t be happier that she chose us.
Introducing Lore and LoreIllustration!
Tell us about your shop Loreillustration.
I opened my shop because I wanted to sell my work and wanted to start making a living from it. I knew it was difficult to achieve and that there are many good illustrators out there. But the key is never giving up! Even when things go wrong, you can’t stop trying and working hard to get where you want to be.
I’m an illustrator, who loves to draw and use watercolors. I started drawing plants, animals and portraits of friends and family, that helped me to have examples of my work that later became commissions and personalized illustrations for people that contacted me via email or through the shop. It also helped me to get to make collaborations with charity projects like for example “Winter Project Life” or “Projecto cidades invisiveis.”
At the beginning I only had illustrations in stock in my shop, prints in different sizes or even small original illustrations with plants or animals. But nowadays I have also stationary stock, Tote bags and different pouches!
I am a curious person, so I wanted to try different things. I started doing stamps on my own, with my carving tools and a rubber block. I love to make things with my hands, and it was fun to carve and then stamp my own creation. I used these stamps to make greeting cards and then I thought that I would love to use them on fabric. Here is when I thought that I could make real and useful things with my own designs.
My mom taught me to sew when I was little, and with more practice I managed to make different pouches with my Cactus and Whale stamps. I also stamped Tote bags and sew them pockets to make them different from other totes that you can find on the internet. I still have a long journey in front of me, a lot of work to do and a dream to fulfill. But I learned that I can only get there by baby steps and never giving up!
What keeps you inspired to create?
My inspiration comes from nature and all the amazing creatures that we have on this planet. Every time I start a personal project, where I do my research and look for pictures, information… I learn so many things and I can’t stop thinking how many more things are out there that I don’t know about and how amazing they are! I also get inspired by all the artist that are out there. I follow on Instagram lots of illustrators, makers and awesome photographers. If one day I can’t find motivation, I only have to see their work and that helps me to want to do things myself.
What does labeling your handmade items do for your business?
Labeling my handmade work was a great thing to do, it not only helps me to get known and recognize my products but also gives my products class and with the Wunderlabel labels they look more professional. It’s also a great way to sign my handmade items. I love my Wunderlabel labels, they are great quality and stick very good to the fabric of my pouches and tote bags. I would recommend to all makers to label their products.
