Easy DIY Fabric Pumpkins

Easy DIY Fabric Pumpkins

These easy fabric pumpkins are the perfect thing for a rustic fall tablescape. They are super easy to put together and can be made out of scrap fabric. I think velvet would be gorgeous and would definitely up the fancy factor!

I used some scrap fabric, a vintage handkerchief and a dinner napkin for my pumpkins. To tie them together I used coordinating yarn but I think ribbon, twine or even raffia would work well and look great too.

Supplies

  • Fabric
  • Coordinating thread
  • Sewing needle
  • Fiber fill for the stuffing
  • Yarn
  • Small twigs
  • Leaves (or leaf shapes cut from felt)
  • Hot glue gun
  • Your costum printed ribbon for decoration or gift

Cut your fabric to the size you want and fold the right sides together. Stitch up one side. You can use your sewing machine for this, but I just stitched it by hand using a running stitch.

At one open end, gather the fabric together and tie it tightly with a piece of yarn or string.  Trim the excess yarn.  Once it's secure turn it right side out. It should resemble a little bag.

Stuff the “bag” with fiber fill. You want it to be pretty full with stuffing so that it bulges a little bit when you wrap the yarn around it.  This is what creates the pumpkin look!

Using a running stitch, stitch the top closed. Pull the string tight to gather the fabric together at the top but leave a little hole – this is where the stem will be placed.  Tuck the top flap of fabric inside. Tie a knot to secure the stitch.

Take a piece of yarn that is long enough to wrap around the pumpkin a total of 3 times. Wrap it around once and tie it tightly at the top.

Repeat this step 2 more times.

To attache the stem, use a small twig and stick it down into the opening you left at the top. Use a dab of hot glue to secure it in place. Use hot glue to attach some leaves to the top or simply tie some raffia around the stem.

The perfect addition to your fall decor!
