Production of Custom Printed Labels

Production of Custom Printed Labels

The production of custom printed labels - with logo or text - is a precise process that involves several important steps to produce a high-quality finished product. From the selection of materials to the shipping of the finished product, each step must be carefully executed by the manufacturer. This article will take you through the label printing process.

Material Selection for Label Printing

The first step is to choose the right label material. Different materials such as cotton, satin, PU or Tyvek can be used for label printing. The choice depends on the requirements of the final product. Does the label need to be durable or luxurious? Soft satin, for example, is ideal for labels that come into contact with the skin, while Tyvek is more suitable for tough, durable labels.

Printing Methods and Process

Labels are printed used state-of-the-art label printers using a variety of techniques. These are also commonly used for printing standard or thermal paper, for example custom stickers or adhesive barcode and product labels. The printing methods depend on the material being used, the print quality and durability required and the intricacy of the label design:

  • Flexographic Printing: This process uses flexible plates that are dipped in ink and then pressed onto the material. It provides a fast printing process and produces sharp, clear results on a variety of materials.

  • Thermal transfer printing: This method uses heat to transfer ink to the label. It is ideal for durable prints that need to withstand frequent washing or extreme conditions, and is often used for care and laundry labels.

  • Digital Printing: Digital label printing offers maximum flexibility as it is suitable for short runs. This process can be used to print very detailed, high-resolution images using the full CMYK color spectrum, making it ideal for personalized labels.

  • Offset printing: Offset printing is a technique where ink is passed from a plate to a rubber blanket, then onto paper or another surface. It is ideal for printing large quantities due to its speed and resulting fast turnaround, consistent quality, and ability to print on a wide range of materials.

Cutting the Labels

The finishing process is about cutting the labels as neatly as possible The manufacturer uses special label cutting machines to cut the labels to the desired label size and shape.

Quality Control of the Labels

Only through careful quality control can we be sure that all labels meet our high standards. Both label printing and cutting must be carefully checked by the manufacturer. Faulty or incomplete labels are sorted out to ensure that only the best products reach the customer.

Product Packaging and Shipping

Finally, the finished custom labels are securely packaged to protect them from damage in transit. The customer can attach the labels as soon as they arrive. Fast and reliable logistics play a crucial role here to ensure that the labels ordered are delivered on time. For a speedier production process and faster shipping (2-3 business days quicker than standard), you can opt for the "Rush Order" option.
