Crochet Market Bag

Crochet Market Bag - Tutorial

Welcome to our crochet market bag tutorial! If you're looking for a practical and eco-friendly way to do your shopping, then you've come to the right place. In this easy step-by-step tutorial, we'll show you how to make your own crochet market bag. Whether you're a crochet beginner or a pro, our crochet market bag free pattern is easy to follow and full of helpful tips to make your project a success. Finished size of the shopper bag: approx. 32 x 34 cm without handle and empty.
Let's get started on our creative journey into the world of crochet!

What type of yarn is best for a crochet market bag?

When choosing yarn for your crochet market bag, cotton is an excellent option. Cotton yarn is durable, long lasting and offers a nice texture. It also allows for good air circulation, making your crochet shopping bag perfect for everyday or beach use.

How can I adjust the size of the crochet market bag?

Do you have a specific size in mind for your crochet market bag? No problem! You can easily adjust the size by changing the number of stitches and rows. Decide how big you want your bag to be before your start and adjust the instructions accordingly. You'll end up with a bespoke crochet market bag that suits your needs perfectly.

You will need the following to make your crochet market bag:

- Yarn: "GlenMore" 100% cotton in the color of your choice (here - brown), skein 50 g approx. 115 m, use approx. 150 g.
- Size of crochet hook: 2.5 mm
- Your own name label
- A pair of scissors

Basic pattern:  “Filet Crochet”:(1 single crochet, 2 chain stitches, 1 single crochet; single crochet and chain stitches in the rows on top of each other)

Gauge: In the filet pattern with a 2.5mm hook: 30 stitches x 11 rows = approx. 10 x 10 cm

Key:
° - a chain stitch
I - a single crochet
... - continue in the same pattern

The net is crocheted in one piece, then folded in half in the middle and held together on both sides with slip stitches. The handles are attached or sewn on at the end on one side (one each on the front and back).
The arrow in the picture indicates the direction that is worked in.

1. Row: Crochet 41 chain stitches.
2. Row: 1 single crochet in the 4th chain stitch, then crochet one single crochet in each following chain stitch until the end of the row.
3. Row: Turn with 3 chain stitches and crochet one single crochet in each of the following 4 single crochets, continue in the filet pattern, work 13 "squares", 5 single crochets in a row, then another 13 "squares" and 5 single crochets to the end of the row.

4. Row: Like the 3rd row.

5. Row: Now continue crocheting until 13 "squares" have been formed in a column (See photo). Then crochet a "full row" with single crochets.

16. Row: Like the 3rd row and subsequent rows.

After 20 "squares" have been formed in a column, crochet a "full row" with singe crochets. You have now reached the middle.

The next rows are worked in mirror image. At this midpoint, fold the crocheted piece.

Now connect both long sides with slip stitches. To prevent it from being too tight, you can crochet 1 or 2 chain stitches between the slip stitches.

Creating the Handles

Now work on the handles:

Crochet 5 single crochets into the 1st row of the initial chain stitch row, as shown in the photo. Then crochet 50 rows in single crochets and finish the work. Attach the end of the handle with slip stitches.

The length of the handles can be extended at any time by adding more rows of stitches.

Note: When the net is filled, the handles will naturally become longer.

Finishing:
