How to knit a triangle shawl with an eyelet pattern: In this free tutorial we show you step by step how to knit a cozy shawl for the cooler days ahead. The triangular shawl is knitted in garter stitch, meaning that you will be knitting every row (no purling!). The border and the middle are embellished with an eyelet pattern.
Our triangle shawl knitting pattern in pink measures approximately 110 cm.
You will need the following for this Triangular Scarf Free Knitting Pattern:
- Yarn: 100 % Polyacryl, 100 g = 320 m, Colour: pink
- Circular knitting needle size 3.5
- A stitch marker
- A personalised leather label from Wunderlabel
Tip: You can use 2 balls of yarn (100 g each) to make a longer scarf.
Gauge
22 stitches and 24 rows = 10 cm
Let’s get started!
In this triangle scarf free knitting pattern, the scarf will be knitted starting at the long side and finishing at the tip. The center spine will be knitted loosely and evenly as you go along.
Increase at the beginning of each row and also in the middle to the right and left of the center stitch to create the triangle shape.
By only knitting back and forth you will be creating a ribbed effect.
The center stitch is the middle stitch created by the 3 cast on stitches.
Row 1: Cast on 3 stitches and knit
Row 2: Knit 1, yarn over, knit 1, yarn over, knit 1, turn
Row 3: Knit 5, turn
Row 4: Knit 1, yarn over, *knit 1, yarn over*; repeat ** until last stitch and finish by knitting 1, turn
Row 5: Knit all stitches, turn
Row 6: Knit 3, yarn over, knit 1, yarn over, knit 1 (this will become the centre spine), yarn over, knit 1, yarn over, knit 3. Turn.
Row 7: Knit 6, Purl 1 (= centre stitch), knit 6, turn
Row 8: Continue by knitting 3, yarn over, knit up to the center stitch, yarn over before and after the center stitch, knit to last 3 stitches, yarn over, knit and turn.
Tip: Make sure to follow the pattern when knitting the center spine: Knit right side rows and purl left side rows.
After about 70 ribs (for a length of appr. 1.10 m) purl the left side row. If you are going for a larger triangular shawl then knit more ribs. In the next right side row, knit 2 together, yarn over, and remember to increase at the edges and the center. Turn over and purl the left side row.
After that, knit the right side row and purl the left hand side. Knit another 3 rib rows. Hide the threads with a darning needle and tie off.
And finally, sew on a personalized label.
